Gabriel Fernandes

A new Gabriel

Gabriel Fernandes, now 12, has always had many complications throughout his life. Going through various therapies, different treatment methods, and various medications. He always suffered from minor spells of unconsciousness, which also caused minor discomfort. But that soon became more complicated situations.

He was diagnosed with moderate autism and, until reaching an accurate diagnosis, faced many struggles and difficulties. His mother, Cristiane Peres Fernandes, recalls that much of her life has was spent trying to find ways to make the situation better. And most of the time, expectations were dashed.

“I tried every treatment method you can imagine. Psychologist, occupational therapy, speech therapist. And in Gabriel's early childhood, nobody could immediately find out what was going on.” she explained.

Gabriel began to show the first signs that he would be an autistic person early when he was one year and eight months old. In her experience as a physiotherapist, Cristiane began to realize that her son did not show signs of development similar to a child of his age.

“As my son grew older, I saw that he was having difficulties. The first thing I thought was that he could be deaf. When everything went well on the ENT exams, the doctor referred me to a neurologist. ”

At 2 years and 9 months, Gabriel was actually diagnosed with moderate autism. Initial examinations indicated that if the syndrome were properly controlled, he could have a good life development. However, as time went on, the dose of medication got bigger and bigger and some difficulties came up along the way.

Gabriel was growing, and his difficulties were arising proportionally. Learning has always been a great challenge, because of the syndrome, dispersion during the literacy process was present all the time.

“It has always been a great fight, it felt like I was swimming and getting nowhere. After celebrating something new he had learned, the next day he was already forgetting and we were back to the starting point.

There was also the aggressiveness factor, which became larger and more frequent. At first it was just words. Soon after, intensified to bites. “The doctors and I blamed this aggressiveness on the syndrome. Until, at certain times, he was biting me. I kept asking myself: What did I do? But in fact I had done nothing. He was simply trying to communicate and could not be understood.” recalls the physical therapist.

Cristiane also mentioned that, over time, her son had been having some “absences”. That is, Gabriel had a few short seconds of unconsciousness. And soon afterwards, when he returned to a normal state of consciousness, he came up with different reactions such as indifference or this great lack of control.

One of the moments that points out as the most impacting throughout her son's life was one of his crises inside an electronics store. Cristiane was choosing appliances when Gabriel started tossing all the appliances in front of her on the floor. "When he threw the coffee maker, it was the moment I thought: it can't go on like this, someone needs to help me."

At this point, Gabriel's neurologist eventually prescribed 1Pure's cannabidiol oil as a complementary medication in the young man's life. And at this moment things started to change.

Using the medication for about four months, Cristiane could immediately see dramatic changes in the life and violent behavior she has been experiencing. In addition to these attacks having diminished, the once uncontrollable hyperactivity had a significant improvement of 90%, according to the report of the physiotherapist.

“I never really thought that cannabidiol would do so much for my son. He became another child. Communication that was once difficult and complex today is much simpler. He is more loving, interactive, engaged in his studies and small tasks. Before, there was no possibility of these things catching his attention.” she said comparing the previous picture.

As Gabriel began using medication from the 1Pure laboratory, (which is currently studies in two schools, one focused on autistic literacy and the regular school for social integration) he began to develop better. “Today, he says: Mom, banana! And also points out the things he wants. Plus, he wants to interact, cook and do his things more independently. ”

And speaking of interaction, Gabriel started playing more, playing sports and getting involved in his routine activities. Even playing capoeira, he is practicing with greater ease.

Beginning to see a clearer outlook on the young man's life, Cristiane believes that in a year she will be able to fulfill one of her greatest desires: Gabriel's complete literacy. "This is a big dream, which thanks to cannabidiol, has never been so close to fulfillment."
